Operating the impressive chapati-machine. In the kitchen of Golden Temple. The kitchen (’langar’ in Punjabi) every day and around the clock serves free food to around 100.000 visitors. It consumes daily on average 7.000 kg of wheat flour, 1.200 kg of rice, 1.300 kg of lentils and 500 kg of ghee (clarified butter). To fire the giant pots the kitchen needs lots of electricity, around 100 LPG cylinders and 5.000 kilograms of firewood every day. The langar is run by 450 staff, helped by hundreds of volunteers.
