Houseboats on Dal Lake. To stay at one of these floating old-style luxury hotels in Srinagar is a very relaxing experience. The sounds of the town and traffic are fading away in the distance. The new sounds here are from the many birds (kites, kingfishers, moorhens, ducks, pigeons, mynahs etc), the calling for prayer from the mosques, the sudden splash from a frightened fish, the soft sounds from passing shikaras. Motorboats are banned on the lake and the shikara is the only way to move around.
