The theater in Hellenistic style (constructed by the Nabataeans during the 1:st century AD) underwent several enlargements and alternations during the years. It was an important place in the city, and was probably used both for plays and public meetings. Initially the theater could seat 3000 people, after enlargement it could seat 7000+ people. The stage and the back wall were decorated with columns and (during the Roman period) marble statues.
